Xbox 360 DVD Drive — Model DG-16D2S?
I had an issue with my Xbox 360 in October when I was still under warranty. I sent my 360 in and they sent me a refurbished console which conveniently worked just long enough until my warranty ran out. Last night it decided that it no longer wanted to read any of my games/dvds/cds mid-game (Commonly known as the “Open Tray Error”) I tried all of the youtube videos to repair it and none of them worked… even the ones that have high success rates. So, I pretty much decided that I am going to buy a new drive or one off of eBay. However, whenever I checked my model number it appears that I have some rare, newer drive.
Do I have to buy another Model DG-16D2S drive or can I get one of the more standard drives such as the original Phillips BENQ?
No matter which drives you buy, each drive has your consoles serial number and a specially encrypted key in it’s firmware. So switching the drive for yourself won’t work, as the new drive doesn’t have the correct security keys.
You’ll really have to get your console repaired professionally.
